Look Inward — Focus Outward
Lent is the season for reflection—looking inward enables us to examine our hearts, souls, and motivations. Looking outward moves us to leverage the inward journey to action aimed at making a difference in the world. As Stanley Jones used to say, ‘If we have not that which is above us within us then we soon fall to that which is around us.

Jim Ozier
I absolutely love coming alongside pastors and churches to help them get clear on their culture, improve their hospitality, and accelerate their growth… even if they are going through a pastoral transition!”
Founder of Church Difference Makers, and former pastor of Trietsch Memorial UMC for nearly 2 decades, Jim has trained more than 20,000 pastors and church leaders in over thirty Annual Conferences in the areas of:
- Assessing and Changing Church Culture
- Passing the Baton in Pastoral Transitions
- Pastoral Searches for larger churches
- Churches wanting to improve hospitality
Jim has presented at the Church of the Resurrection Leadership Institute, and keynoted the Indiana Annual Conference. He has contributed articles for a variety of national publications, such as “The Circuit Rider” and “Leading Ideas,” and keynoted at United Methodist Annual Conferences sessions and spoken at numerous venues.
Jim’s wife, Suzanne, is a retired Special Education teacher. They live in Irving, Texas.
The Owen Lectures will be in-person and live-streamed. Lectures will be followed each day by a complimentary Lunch.
To reserve lunch, email Martha Stowe at mstowe@llumc.org
Childcare is available with advanced reservations by April 11.
The Owen Lenten Lectures are endowed through the generosity of Babs and Arch Owen and were established in 1985. Arch Owen was the first president of the LLUMC Foundation and it was his great vision that recognized the need for an endowment to support, in perpetuity, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, its Ministry, Outreach, and Evangelism.
Arthur Lee Owen passed away on February 21, 2010; Babs enthusiastically supported Lovers Lane and the Lecture Series until the end of her fruitful life on December 7, 2021, just shy of her 104th birthday. The Foundation Board of Directors holds immense gratitude for Babs and Arch Owen for their steadfast generosity and loyalty and hopes these lectures will enhance your time of renewal during this Easter Season.
