2024 Owen Lenten Lectures

2024 Owen Lenten Lecture Series

Featuring Rev. Dr. Ron Henderson

Tuesday, March 26 & Wednesday, March 27

12:00 PM | Lovers Lane UMC | Shipp Chapel

9200 Inwood Rd

In order to identify with the Crucified Christ, one must fully take on Christ. We fully take on the Crucified Christ through our devotion to God, going on to purification and/or sanctification and taking on his poverty.  The Crucified Christ took on the suffering of the world. Humankind seem to have a one-sided approach to the faith.  On one hand, we are very holy in our devotion to God while being indifferent, even callous, to our neighbor in need. On the other hand, we seem to be very zealous in our service and commitment to justice without personal devotion to God.  The Crucified Christ was zealous in his devotion to God and in his service and true love to a broken world.

The Owen Lectures will be in-person and live-streamed. Lectures will be followed each day by a complimentary Lunch.

To reserve lunch, email Martha Stowe at mstowe@llumc.org

Childcare is available with advanced reservations by March 22.

The Owen Lenten Lectures are endowed through the generosity of Babs and Arch Owen and were established in 1985. Arch Owen was the first president of the LLUMC Foundation and it was his great vision that recognized the need for an endowment to support, in perpetuity, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, its Ministry, Outreach, and Evangelism.

Arthur Lee Owen passed away on February 21, 2010; Babs enthusiastically supported Lovers Lane and the Lecture Series until the end of her fruitful life on December 7, 2021, just shy of her 104th birthday.  The Foundation Board of Directors holds immense gratitude for Babs and Arch Owen for their steadfast generosity and loyalty and hopes these lectures will enhance your time of renewal during this Easter Season.
