Sensational Sea & Sky

Dave Arena’s abstract interpretation of sea and sky is done entirely in alcohol paints with a technique completely free of brushes using pneuma or breath to move the paints in delightful patterns. The result is richly colored pieces in vibrant colors with a look reminiscent of the sea or sky.  Also featured in the exhibit are some of his original bracelets and necklaces—all created from natural stone and glass.  Each piece is carefully hand-crafted to provide the perfect accessory for your next event. Dave’s work is currently under consideration with a multinational company as a fabric print in their 2023 clothing line.

Dave Arena’s love and talent for art had its birth in his early childhood and continues today.  He is a graduate of Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, served in the US Air Force, was a college educator, and finally retired as a middle school teacher.  Dave was a licensed minister for most of his life,  helping in a variety of capacities around the world.  Dave lives in Southlake, Texas with his husband, Bruce, and their two cats; Loki and Laga. He has a son in Port Arthur, Texas, and a daughter and son-in-law in Aurora, Colorado.  Dave volunteers at LLUMC in a variety of capacities. He is a long-time member of the Modern Worship Team and plays Santa Claus for Everybody’s Christmas.

All are welcome to attend a “meet the artist” reception in Watson Hall on Sunday, October 9, from noon to 1:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided. This is an opportunity to meet the artists and fellowship with all congregations and guests. 

Artreach Gallery

The ArtReach Gallery graces the walls of Watson Hall at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church and is the work of the Visual Arts Committee of LLUMC and is sponsored by the Lovers Lane Foundation. All artwork is for sale unless otherwise indicated. Purchase prices are shown on the title cards on display in Watson Hall.    A portion (25%) of all sale proceeds benefits the Visual Arts Endowment Fund of the Lovers Lane Foundation.  To purchase a piece of art, contact Paul Ditto at 214-706-9561 or email ArtReach@llumc.org.

Visual Arts Committee

We are always looking for artists or individuals with an interest in art to serve on our Visual Arts Committee.   Let us know if you would be interested  —  we would love to talk to you about it!  Serving on this committee is a great way to serve the art community and Lovers Lane United Methodist Church and its Foundation.  You do not need to be an artist and you do not need to be a member of LLUMC to serve on the Visual Arts Committee.
